"The Rod of God"
Exodus 4:18-20

A comparison to the Word of God

I.    The  presentation  of the rod. (vs. 4:2-4)
Moses needed something from the Lord and the Lord gave him something he already had.

II.    The  purpose  of the rod. (vs. 4:5)
The rod was not used to show that Moses had great power, but that others would know
that Moses had met with God.
II Timothy 3:16--There's a purpose for the Bible in our hands, just like the rod. "...in order
that our lives might be changed...".

III.    The  presence  of the rod. (vs. 4:20)
Psalm 119:11--The Word of God should be with us at all times and at all places.

IV.    The  power  of the rod. (vs. 14:13-16)
THE WORD OF GOD HAS THE POWER TO SAVE--NOTHING ELSE HAS THIS POWER!
The Word of God also has the power to separate.

V.    The  provision  of the rod. (vs. 17:3-6, 8-13)
Verses 3-6---The rod sustains us. When we feel drained, the Word will refresh and sustain us,
but we must study for ourselves.
Verses 8-13---The rod secures us. The Word must be held as a top priority in order to save us.
The Church will grow when we hold up the Word.

VI.    The  perversion  of the rod. (Numbers 20:8-11)
Moses perverted God's Authority by striking the rock instead of speaking to the rock. Moses
did not do what he was supposed to do and therefore the people became confused.
We pervert God's Word today in order that we might gain.
