"The Desire of Jesus"
Matthew 19:16-22
I. Jesus
does not desire our flattery . (vs. 16-17a)
There was a young, wealthy man that came to Jesus.
A) The young man used a flattering reference
.
He called Jesus "good master". This man's social status was higher than Jesus'
status.
Jesus does not want to be flattered.
B) The young man had a faulty realization
.
The young man knew that he liked to be flattered, so he thinks Jesus would like
to be
flattered--WRONG!!
We do things to please man thinking that this is pleasing God.
Pleasing man is NOT pleasing God.
If we sing to the world during the week and to God with the same voice on
Sunday, we
are not pleasing God.
God wants our best all the time and not just on Sundays.
We try to flatter God without changing our lives.
In Isaiah it says, "...your ways are not my ways..."
II.
Jesus does not desire our fallacy . (vs. 17b-20)
I John 3:20--"...God knows all things."
Jesus knew what the young man wanted and knew what he was thinking. The man lied
when he
said he had kept all these commandments Jesus mentioned.
If we are not in the right relationship with God, then we come and worship and therefore lie.
III. Jesus does
desire our faithfulness . (vs. 21-22)
Luke 14:33--God already owns everything--possessions, money, etc.. We must give
it all back to
Jesus.
Matthew 25:1-10
a) Faithfulness in preparation.
Matthew 25:1-3
b) Faithful in their presentation.
Matthew 25:4-10
c) He is faithful in our preservation.
Matthew 25:10c
Those who are faithful are preserved every time.
Those who are not faithful are condemned to an eternity in hell.
Did we come playing games or did we come to be faithful??
